Career Day at Raymond Mays
Raymond Mays Middle School (RMMS) hosted Career Day, welcoming 18 career representatives from various fields. Students had the opportunity to explore professions requiring a range of training, from certification programs to post-baccalaureate degrees. The event featured careers in the technology sector, medical fields, first responders, retail, and human services.
"Kids were excited to participate. Several students were overheard talking about looking forward to the event," shared Erin Henderson, RMMS School Counselor. "Everyone seemed to be actively engaged with things that interested them. Many of the guests were as excited as the kids were to show off their career and talk about a fulfilling career doing something they are passionate about."
Henderson shared her hopes for the impact of Career Day, stating, "My hope is that students were exposed to a wide variety of realistic job opportunities that they can continue to investigate and expand their interests. I also hope the career fair was as rewarding an experience for the many guests that volunteered their time as it was for myself and all the staff that pitched in to make this happen for our kids!"
Principal Timothy Goodridge also thanked community partners "I would like to thank our community partners for making our RMMS 6th and 7th Grade Career Day a huge success. Our students were very engaged with the varied careers represented. The representatives did a great job in helping our young people discover various careers and the requirements to get a job in those fields."
